Agored Cymru: Level 1 Applied Gardening Skills certificate with Life at No.27

Come relax, learn, grow and gain the CQFW Level 1 Certificate in Applied Gardening Skills. Over the course of 6 weeks (one day a week), we will cover year-round vegetable growing, ornamental planting with flowers and shrubs, and managing pests and diseases.


We’re excited to share that Annabelle will be teaming up with The Big Skill to offer 8 people the opportunity to gain the Agored Cymru CQFW Level 1 Certificate in Applied Gardening Skills.  

The 6 week course will take place on Tuesdays at the Life at No.27 therapy garden within Craig Y Nos Country Park, SA9 1GL, from 9:45am – 2:45pm. Starting on the 12th August 2023.  Over the course of the 6 weeks, we will cover all aspects of gardening, including both theory and lots of practical hands-on learning. As its me delivering the course, there will be guaranteed opportunities for mindfulness exercises, a cuppa or three and lots of chatting.  

Here is the units of learning we will cover;
Unit 1: Understand appropriate control measures for a plant pests and diseases.  
Unit 2: Learn and know a range of trees, shrubs and climbers provide year-round interest in the garden.  
Unit 3: Learn and be able to plan crop rotation in a small vegetable garden, throughout the year. Unit 4: Be able to plan a maintenance schedule for lawn care in the garden.  
Unit 5: Be able to design a planted container for a stated situation.  
Unit 6: Be able to plan a production schedule for a small greenhouse, conservatory or polytunnel.  

At the end of course, you will submit your completed written portfolio for assessment and receive your certificate shortly afterwards.  

Fee: I’m so pleased to say that we are offering this course as Pay What You Can, as we want to ensure those who may benefit the most can take part. All fees contributed will enable us and The Big Skill to keep offering courses in the future.

If you would like a suggested donation idea, I would propose anything from £20 – £80 for the full course. But as stated, whether you donate much less or more, we would love to welcome you.

Places are limited to 8 people and we ask that you ensure you can commit to all 6 weeks before signing up. This will ensure you all gain as much from the course as possible and have an enjoyable experience.  

The course is open to everyone, but we highly encourage and recommend the course for those looking to build new skills, return to work or go on to gain volunteering experience in a garden or community garden setting.  

Please bring your own gardening gloves if you choose to and have your own. I will have spare pairs available for you as well.  

Please bring your own packed lunch and bottled water. Alternatively, there is a cafe on site which you can use. Plenty of Tea, coffee, herbal teas and biscuits will be provided.
