Asking for help has always been a weakness of mine, but I’m finally learning and what a difference it has made! I have accepted business support, advertised volunteer roles, asked brilliant brands for help and held a few working parties at the therapy site now. Every time I’m always nervous whether people will connect with my dream and donate their time. But, beautiful people always come and bring so much energy.
It’s time to celebrate the kind people that have recently helped me at the adult therapy site!
Here is a snapshot of the fantastic days and the work that has been achieved!
Amazing volunteers of all ages filled the WoodblocX raised beds and Scheurich containers with hort loam donated by British Sugar TOPSOIL. This definitely couldn’t of been done without the robust and totally dreamy Henchman wheelbarrow that was gifted to the site.
We planted up the raised beds and containers with all of my favourite medicinal plants, donated by John Cullen Gardens. All these plants which include verbena, chamomile, oregano, hyssop and mint, were used in my 2019 show garden at Belvoir Flower and Garden Festival. I have kept them alive and safe ever since and I’m so happy that they can finally settle in their home. Not without a helping hand of rootgrow mycorrhizal fungi to really make their roots start dancing.
We have nearly finished building my 3 bay compost system of dreams! Ever since I got my allotment in 2015, I have always wanted one and finally I do, which makes me so happy! Thank you Richard for your muscles, roof rack and total understanding of how happy wooden pallets make me.
I then spent some of the working party on Saturday screwing all the pallets together. It turns out that I’m pretty nifty with an electric screwdriver. Just the doors to complete now!
Of course, the work wouldn’t be complete without lots of weeding, executed amazingly by volunteers too.
There is still lots to do as always, but the progress that can be made with extra, super positive and hard working hands is incredible!
Richard, Yvonne, Frances, Charlotte, Isabelle, Amelia and Kirsty…..THANK YOU!!
In the last couple of weeks, I have also recruited my first two official volunteers, Jill and Yvonne who will support me on a weekly basis at the site!! Getting the plots ready, keeping the site maintained and most importantly, supporting client gardeners with their mini allotments! This feels like a giant step forward and I will be sure to introduce you to them very soon.
For now though, thank you and I will be back very soon with a towpath garden update. It’s starting to look lush and beautiful again now that Spring has arrived.
